"(OOTR15) M5 Taken by Storm, cont'd"
|
First thread's getting a bit unwieldy. Let's have another one. StarRanger4 said: >Emily's an Earthbender? where did that come from? were you >deliberately hiding it, or was I just clueless and overlooked hints >you'd already thrown out? ... well, she did say "I'm an earthbender" back in Goodbye & Hello, when Korra asked her if she could handle herself in a fight. :) >The house... DAAAAANG. Sounds impressive, but I'm still having >trouble visualizing it. doubt we're lucky enough there is a reference >image for it anywhere? Not yet, but there will be once it's had a little more screen time. It has features I don't want to show first in a metadocument. I did, in fact, "prototype" Bellehaven in The Sims 3; the game model doesn't look exactly like the one in-story, but it's close enough for development work. >I see Temzin has taught Korra from the Myagi school. If best defense >no be there, so much better to take enemy firepower and use it on him! Oh, she was doing that kind of thing long before Tenzin played any part in her training. Using the other guy's fire against him is - well, it's not Firebending 101, but it's probably one of the first things they cover in 201. >Corwin as earthbender flows so naturally I'm certain that you'd >already exposed us to it and I've just forgotten when/where Here and there. As Matt pointed out, it first appeared at his wedding back in Try, Try Again (as did the person who taught it to him), and was fairly prominent in What's Past Is Prologue when Korra maneuvered him into subbing for the Fire Ferrets' usual EB in an exhibition match. --G. -><- Benjamin D. I do have to wonder what Cheongs idea of Korra 'growing up' would be. I mean, I'd like to think it wasn't the 'superweapon obeying orders' sort of nonsense, but this chapter has shown that he's not the smartest guy around. His and Korra's next meeting should be interesting... I wonder if Kyoshi will make another appearance. Now that I think about it, what are the odds he was involved in the last case of the White Lotus living down to the stereotype? (Damn, I'm really feeling sorry for the poor guys in the organisation that actually get how Korra works and are happy to help.) Matrix Dragon, J. Random Nutter |

He's not that much of a radical. (And if he were, he would be in for a grave disappointment.) More that he finds her irritatingly frivolous and easily distracted, and he has pretty significant misgivings about these New People. He's not old enough to realize that she's actually become more like herself since she went Outside in the wake of the Spirit Incident of 271. It's not unlike the reason why she doesn't do meditation as regular sages understand it - "still water is dead water" - and Cheong doesn't have the cultural background to (if you will pardon the pun) fathom that attitude. His roots are mainly in the Earth Kingdom, where the phrase "for pity's sake will you light somewhere already" is not an uncommon viewpoint. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Good God, I feel like I just sat through "A Good Man Goes To War" all over again. I half-expected the Paternoster Gang to show up, though I imagine with how heavy the drama was this outing, Strax's comically serious attitude would have seemed out of place. Still, this felt very much like the first part of a two-parter, ending on a wham of a cliffhanger. The deaths of two villains and one promising new character, the introduction of a powerful new player, the revelation that the Black Rose has more reach and influence than hinted at and that the rot in the White Lotus went deeper than it seemed, the return of a wayward character and what seems is the ending of a romance (I'd say two, but Wakaba is the forgiving type), and then the final wham when we realize that the whole battle has been a sleight-of-hand while the real target was where we couldn't see them. And that's not including all the emotional fallout that all those events will bring with them. The icing on the cake was Lin's introduction in the post-credits. I've debated a couple times with asking if we'd ever see her in UF, figuring you had something up your sleeve. Glad to see my patience was rewarded. -------------------------- CdrMike, Overwatch Reject "You know, the world could always use more heroes." - Tracer, Overwatch |

Well, they have turned up in one of the mini-stories, so they must be lurking somewhere in Oriphos. I'm hoping we'll find out in the next exciting episode. And Strax's attitude is never out of place. It just is. -- Unable to save the day: File is read-only. |

>First thread's getting a bit unwieldy. Let's have another one. OK, let's! "Taken By Storm" was an awesome storm, and well worth the wait. The title foreshadowed quite effectively. Great work, people! You've earned "TheOtherSean Seal of Approval." (That and a dollar will get you a cup of cheap coffee.) Midway through the assault, I was thinking the situation was getting especially bad, and wondered if Corwin was able to summon Big O on Diqui or not. A couple of paragraphs later he was unconscious, and it was a moot point. It's a shame Annabelle's great-uncle didn't hang around. He might have come in handy in Republic City or at the Fort. Come to think of it, I don't recall them existing as team in UF, but I think the Avengers in general would have come in handy in either location that day. Wakaba sounds like she pitched in pretty well, but it seems like they could have used all the help they could have gotten. Anyhow, great story, and I look forward to the next installment.

Hulk, Thor, Ironman, and Black Widow are 80% of the Avengers from the first movie - the only one missing is the less-interesting Hawkeye. They all know UF Gryphon. If the illustrious staff of Eyrie Productions are sending all and sundry against Oriphos to reclaim the lost children in a future installment, adding the Avengers to the team would certainly be feasible. Of course, that would turn the snark level to 11 - imagine Nall and Tony Snark (er, Stark) in the same scene. Danger! -- The Other Sean - Don't accept substitutes! Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes? |

Good to know about Hawkeye. It seems very probable that Captain America (a, if not the, Deputy Chief of the IPO), Iron Man (major IPO contractor) and the Hulk (alter ego of an IPO scientist) are at least aware of each other although Tony may not have ever mentioned having been on a super-team with their dimensional counterparts. I could see Tony having a mental rolodex for 'if I need to assemble some Avengers' that includes both the other two and he'd likely add UF! Thor, Clint Barton and Natasha Romanova to the list if he came across them. Whether or not he'd ever get the chance and whether it'd work is quite another matter. But this has turned into a lengthy digression. D. |

Sure, but they largely didn't know each other in the Avengers movie, either. Maybe you should direct Avengers 3. You could certainly do a better job of avoiding controversial tweets than Joss Whedon managed.

With the references to what I think might be Christmas in Sendai in this story, is that story coming anytime soon in some form, or is it still in a Symphony 3 holding pattern (along with A Day at the Races), or even been cancelled? Jeanne

I can imagine Akio would have lot of options open to him with a child of his blood, let alone one with the blood of the gods as well. None of said options would be good for the child. LAST EDITED ON Jun-03-15 AT 09:53 PM (EDT) To quote something from one of my favorite books:"Harry, I'm not sure if you noticed this. But things did not turn out well for the last monster who raised his hand against your child. Or any of his friends. Or associates. Or anyone who worked for him. Or for most of the people he knew. Whether or not that was your intention, you did establish a rather effective precedental message to the various predators, should they ever learn of her relationship to you." - Michael Carpenter to Harry Dresden, Skin Game I can totally see the Duelists going full-on Chichén Itzá on the Black Rose to get Annabelle and Garnet back.

>That and how they have to officially deny that one of their players, >Erica, exists. The weirdest part of playing an away game against the Spiderwolves is that nobody comes to see them play in person. Everyone stays home and watches it on TV. It's a really nice facility, and you get a handful of visiting-team fans, but it's like the locals aren't allowed in the stadium or something. Also, nobody can figure out why it's called Dog Park. --G. -><- Benjamin D. So, when Utena slices off Anubishu's hand, the narrative just sort of drops the fact that she is now a dísir. Checking for other use of this term yielded that this means she is now a very minor goddess from Shepard's BPGD entry. When did this happen? |

She married one of the Æsir; it sorta comes with it. (She's not entirely aware of it, even though Vigdis Brightblade warned her it would happen back in Clarion Call; when she first manifested her godhead in Familiar Spirits she didn't actually notice, though many of those around her sure did. :) (The singular is dís, btw.) --G. -><- Benjamin D. The (cont'd) part reminded me, While I was fairly sure(considering the area of the forums) that that wasn't it, my first reaction was STILL that the Mythbusters had ended up in some fairly bad weather. ...! Gott's Leetle Feesh in Trousers! |

>The armor itself isn't evil It's been a long time, but I seem to recall that the Warlords' yoroi are cursed in the original, which is why their wearers serve Lord Talpa and act in ways that are perverse interpretations of the virtues they're supposed to represent. I could be completely misremembering that, though, and they're really just assholes who willingly work for a demon lord. --G. -><- Benjamin D.
