>Species: Human Is there any kind of special flag in the RZC database to tell allies* "don't worry, it's cool" when a biometric scan doesn't match up properly (or show any DNA whatsoever**)? *I'm assuming that if an enemy nation has questions about that, it's handled with a wad of either credits or corrosive torpedoes, as needed. **I'm sure the details of a Mental Model's construction could go deep into "don't investigate this too closely" territory. The only question I'd want to ask is, considering the Grey Goo contingency, how thoroughly does Customs search for stray nanomachines? "This is probably a stupid question, but . . ." |

Haruharu's problem is she has even more trouble expressing emotions than Kaga does, while Kirishima gets a pass because she's a chibi in a bear suit. On the other hand, Zuikaku seems to have gone totally native, while we know that Yamato's alter-ego managed to pass for a good long while as human before she disappeared. And I-402 appears able to pass as human at least enough not to have tripped any alarms.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-15-15 AT 06:37 PM (EDT) >To be fair, the Tenryuu-class cruiser really *isn't* much of a >threat. Mental Model Tenryuu, on the other hand . . . True, although to be additionally fair, Iona wasn't factoring that possibility into her calculations. She's encountered very few other Fog ships in person at that point, and never another one with a Mental Model. She had rather assumed that she was anomalous in that regard. (I am aware that, canonically, Fog ships smaller than heavy cruisers can't have their own Mental Models barring oddball exceptions like the I-400 class and U-2511; I'm just going to tell y'all right now that I'm not sticking to that rule, because then there would not be destroyers, and what is the point of personified warships without destroyers?! :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Well, Z1934-class ships were bigger than Type XXI U-boats, at least (although still pretty small). Would explain why she's evidently got no dang luck at all, though. Poor old Lebe was sunk by the Luftwaffe (and then her sister ship, Z3 Max Schultz, hit a mine - very possibly a German mine - and sank with all hands while trying to rescue her crew). Meanwhile, one of the other destroyers in the flotilla depth-charged a submarine that wasn't there and jammed its own rudder, and a couple of the others nearly rammed each other in the course of executing panicked evasive maneuvers to escape the Heinkels and nonexistent British subs. Eventually the survivors all just called it a day and slunk back to port, never bothering to carry out their original mission, which had been - I'm not making this up - to harass British fishing boats on the Dogger Bank. If you're keeping score at home, that means the German Navy undertook a destroyer expedition to shoot up some unarmed fishing vessels (which is like breaking up your neighbors' annoying game of pickup basketball with explosives), two of them sank, another was damaged, and at no time did they ever actually come into contact with enemy forces of any kind. The Royal Navy essentially managed to sink two German destroyers simply by existing. The whole affair reads like what a naval engagement would go like if, say, I were controlling it through an untranslated copy of the Russian version of World of Warships, couldn't find the other team or figure out the navigation system, and eventually decided to just start sandboxing to see what my weapons did. (No wonder the KanColle versions of Lebe and Max seem so happy to be there. Based on what I've read about the game mechanics, even the shittiest Shitty Admiral would have to do actual work to fuck up a destroyer sortie that badly. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. TenryĆ« will >threaten to pound your face in, but angering Tatsuta will mean >sleeping with one eye open. Japanese light cruisers all seem to be a little nuts. Maybe it's because they feel like they should be destroyers except they're too big and grown-up for that, but they know they're not proper cruisers either, so they get all that tweener anxiety happening. They're like the warships who weren't really ready for college but they're there anyway. Also, these constant references to sleeping with one eye open around Tatsuta are really insensitive to Tenryū's handicap. She has feelings, you know. --G. -><- Benjamin D. That's the thing, Tenryƫ looks like a delinquent, and then you catch her outside of the school looking after her kid sister and the whole "bad girl" mystique shatters into a million pieces.
Meanwhile, Tatsuta is the kinda girl that guys just instinctively avoid, as if she has "psycho" written all over her. Sure, she doesn't look particularly scary, but she has that twinkle in her eye that says "They'll never find the body." But, she's also depicted as a massive troll, so it could just be that she's capitalizing on the unease she inspires in others for her own amusement. -------------------------- CdrMike, Renegade Time Lord "I have questions, but number one is this: What in the name of sanity have you got on your head?"
