Ryan Mathews' Bubblegum Crisis Stories

Bubblegum Crisis

Bubblegum Crisis was an eight-episode anime video series released in the late 80's. It tells the story of the Knight Sabers, four lovely ladies who moonlight as battlesuited mercenaries in the future city of Mega-Tokyo. They battle the evil corporation Genom, and fight Boomers, the artificial humanoids Genom produces.

I've only written two stories in this universe, and one is a parody.

Bubblegum Cards

Bubblegum Cards is a parody I wrote after having seen the first three episodes of Bubblegum Crisis. Although I enjoyed the anime (it's still one of my favorites), there was a lot in those early episodes that was kind of silly, at least if you looked at it in a certain way. And so was born this parody, a sweeping saga of power, humanity, household appliances, television, and four ditzy chicks in battlesuits.

Burst

This story is unfinished, and will probably remain that way unless enough people tell me to change my mind. I began writing Burst after having seen seven of the original eight Bubblegum Crisis episodes. At the time, it looked highly unlikely that there would ever be any more episodes made, so I began writing Burst to bring the whole saga to a glorious conclusion. Unfortunately, two things happened. First, I saw the eighth episode, Scoop Chase. The implied attraction between Nene and Macky soured me on the romance I'd planned between Nene and Rick Seminole. Secondly, Bubblegum Crash! was produced, pretty much ruining the "big surprise" I'd planned for the end of the story.

I occasionally get an email message asking me if I'm ever going to finish the story. I always tell them the same thing: "only if I get a flood of requests for me to do so". Please check out what's been written, if you're interested. If you'd like to see more, you can help create that flood of requests by clicking on my email address at the bottom of the page.
