Overview Archangelion is the code name given to the goal of the Next Generation Evangelion Initiative, Project Defender.

Aside from general improvements in power train, armour composition, and combat sensor and targeting systems, the chief technological driving force behind Project Defender is the Super-Synchron Direct Neural Interface Control System, developed by J. Minter and R. Akagi for NERV Technical Division.

The full complexity, flexibility and power of the Super-Synchron system are well beyond the scope of this document, but in general terms, its main advantages are:

• Enhanced pilot-to-unit synchronisation capabilities
  Pilot-to-unit synchronisation times of less than 10 seconds should be routine with the Super-Synchron system; even the most efficient Evangelion unit, EVA-02, required an average startup time of 22.32 seconds during its service life. Archangelion's projected average synchrony ratio is 0.92:1, up from EVA-02's average of 0.78:1 (EVA-01's average is historically higher, but must be discounted due to the unique nature of that unit's neurosystems and pilot/unit compatibility).
• Advanced Absolute Terror Field manipulation capabilities
  Using the Super-Synchron system, Archangelion pilots will be able to use their units' AT Fields for much more than simple protection and neutralization of enemy field effects. Projections indicate they will also be able to harness the tremendous energies embodied by the AT Field to produce a number of offensive effects, similar to those employed by various Angels (see Report 449-4.a49, Offensive Tactics and Techniques of Angels).
• Slave Unit Mode
  Should any unit equipped with the Super-Synchron system suffer a command system or pilot failure, control of the unit can be turned over to a command stream from another Super-Synchron-equipped unit, allowing the disabled unit to stay in the fight and assist its synchronised master.
